| “To create one of my Pow Wow paintings, I attend various Pow Wows of the Southwest focusing mainly on Gathering of Nations held each April in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gathering of Nations is my favorite event because of its sheer size and number of dancers – as many as 3,000 over the weekend. The colors, patterns and textures of these dancers blend into a kaleidoscope of colorful design. I like to put a sharp focus on faces or outfits which by their incredible uniqueness draws attention to themselves above all others. Each of my paintings is not only a snapshot of time and place, but also records the blending of cultures and history. Pow Wows are a vital catalyst for cultural renewal and celebration. | Taryn Wise was born in Illinois in and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Lindenwood Colleges in St. Charles, MO. She then earned her Master of Arts degree at the Univeristy of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Taryn spent the next 20 years focusing on marketing and advertising design. Taryn lived in Southern California for many years and then moved to Sedona, Arizona in 1992. Taryn was the Director of Sales for Mountain Trails Gallery in Sedona, AZ and Sage Creek Gallery in Santa Fe, NM. Taryn operatd her own gallery from 2003-2005 at Tlaquepaqe, Sedona, AZ and will be announcing her new studio location in Santa Fe, NM in the Fall of 2008. Taryn is also pleased to announce her acceptance into the Oil Painters of America. She will enter her first OPA Shows starting in the spring of 2008. PERSONAL NOTE: I look forward to the Gathering of Nations 2008 - it should be the most spectacular event so far.
